Dear All

We urgently need your help. As most of you know we have been waiting for the planning application to be submitted on 33 Creechurch lane – the building adjacent to our Historical Bevis Marks Synagogue – and the enclosed image shows its effects on our light, and our heritage environment not to mention the building’s structure. Please see below the advice and guidance from our professional team. Can we please call you ALL to action to follow the simple instructions below. The online comments link below is very simple.

This is our synagogue and it’s for us to protect it for our future generations.

ACTION PLAN

A planning application has been submitted to the City of London for a 20 storey tower just a few metres from the Synagogue’s eastern wall. As you will see from the image below, it will tower over the Synagogue. We have been monitoring this and now we need your help.

As a matter of urgency - Please let the City know what you think by submitting comments by the deadline of 12th February - or sooner if you can. We give details of how to do this below. Every objection counts - so please respond quickly.

In conveying your views you may wish to reflect the Trustees major concerns:

“We are deeply concerned over the major impact that the development would have on the historic setting of the Synagogue along with the reductions in daylight and sunlight into the Synagogue and the much used courtyard. This overbearing presence will change the much loved character and atmosphere of the Synagogue and its immediate surroundings.  We are also worried about disturbance to our services, disabled access and damage to the Synagogue’s fabric during the construction of such a large tower so close to our 300 year old building.”

You can submit comments on the planning application through the City of London online system here.

Alternatively you can email PLNComments@cityoflondon.gov.uk quoting the planning application reference 18/00305/FULMAJ and the address which is 33 Creechurch Lane London EC3A 5E.

You can also write, quoting the same reference number and address, to:
